Bark & Purr
This is what it feels like when someone really, really sees your pet. A third kind of grooming salon for Allen — not a chain, not a stressful independent. A place that feels like home for pets and PAWrents both.
I’ve spent thirty years figuring out how to make things work that other people said couldn’t — hotels, businesses, systems, people. Bark & Purr is different from all of them. This one I built because I love it.
I looked around at what was available for pet owners in Allen and saw two kinds of salons: the chains, where your dog is a ticket number, and the independents, where quality was inconsistent and the experience was stressful. I wanted a third thing — a place where the groomer knows your dog’s name before you get through the door.
But I couldn’t do it alone. That’s where Dora came in. Dora Valdez Owens is a Director of Marketing at a top advertising agency — strategic, creative, unshakeable. When this opportunity came up, I said: I know this is something you wanted to do next year, but it’s available now. Do you want to do it with me? She said yes immediately. She believed in the vision so deeply she got a second mortgage on her home to make it happen. That’s the kind of partner she is.
“I didn’t open a grooming salon. I opened a place where pets feel safe and PAWrents feel proud.”
I’m on the floor every day — working with the team, greeting the regulars, dancing with the doodles, whispering to the cats. Dora is the creative and strategic partner: the one I call when I’m brainstorming a new idea — Tranquil Tail Grooming®, the logo, the Den Club. Linda brings the heart and the hustle. Dora brings the strategy and the belief. Together, we’ve built something neither of us could have built alone.
What makes Bark & Purr different isn’t any one thing — it’s the accumulation of small decisions made in favor of the pet, every single day. The choice to hand-dry instead of cage-dry. To stop a groom if a dog is too stressed. To build an Academy so our groomers are trained by people who actually groom. To know every regular by name. You feel it when you walk in. The leash goes slack. That’s by design.
Not a size category, not a coat type, not a 9:30 slot. A specific animal with a specific personality and history that our team is responsible for knowing.
A technically perfect haircut on a terrified dog is not a good groom. Fear is not a grooming tool — it’s a problem to solve.
Same groomer every visit, same approach every time. Pets build trust through repetition — our job is to be reliably calm, gentle, and excellent.
You trust us with a family member. That deserves honest wellness updates, honest communication, honest pricing. We earn trust, then protect it.
We built the Bark & Purr Grooming Academy because great groomers are grown, not found — trained by people who groom every day.
Does your pet come bounding out fresh, confident, and straight at you? That prance is what every person on this team builds toward. Every single day.
The framework Linda developed over years of working with pets who were frightened, reactive, or failed by other groomers. Not a single technique — a complete philosophy of care every Bark & Purr groomer is trained in. The core principle: the pet’s emotional state is part of the groom.
“The best groom I’ve ever done was on a dog other salons had given up on. It took three visits before she let me finish. The fourth visit, she walked straight to my table.”
We train our own groomers. The Academy is a full curriculum that takes a team member from bather to certified groomer — all inside Bark & Purr, under the same standards we apply to every appointment, trained specifically to our philosophy and our clients.
“We groom our own groomers.” No chain can say that.

Book a sPAW Day and watch the leash go slack. That’s the whole idea.
